Recently, we at Glasgow Care Foundation were honoured and delighted to be chosen by NFU Mutual Agents and their staff at the local Bearsden agency to receive a donation of more than £6000 from NFU Mutual’s national £1.92million ‘Agency Giving Fund’.
The leading rural insurer has launched this fund, now in its third year, to help local frontline charities across the country. The Agency Giving Fund forms part of NFU Mutual’s £3.25m funding pledge for both local and national charities in 2022, to help tackle the ongoing effects of the pandemic and assist with recovery.
To ensure these donations reach all corners of the UK and are directed where they’re needed most, NFU Mutual’s Agents, with over 295 offices nationwide, have been given the opportunity to nominate local charities to receive a share of the fund. We are so, so thankful to them for nominating us.
This money will allow us to reach many vulnerable people and enable us to continue our mission providing assistance to those experiencing poverty. We were delighted to go along and meet some of the team who selected us and let them know, in person, what this donation means to us and how we will use it.
Glasgow Care Foundation’s Chairman, Alistair Campbell, said:
“We’re enormously thankful to the Bearsden agency of NFU Mutual for nominating our charity to receive a donation from the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund. The money has gone a long way to helping us.
We are now in our 149th year and still supporting people in Glasgow living in poverty with basic household items and supermarket gift cards where there is evidence of food poverty. In the last year we awarded 901 grants in total. This helped individual families of all ages and different family groups with essential items and supported multiple people within the community through our community grant programme. Collectively this impacted on 2671 people. Our vision is to help 10,000 people over the next 10 years.
We often describe ourselves as a ‘Small charity doing big things for Glasgow’. Our motto is ‘A Helping Hand not a Handout’.
We thank NFU Mutual once again for their support, it is very much appreciated.”
Gavin Maxwell, Locum Agent in Bearsden agency, said:
“It was inspiring to hear from Elaine and Alistair at Glasgow Care Foundation talk about how much they do to support people in Glasgow. Whether it be helping a family get a washing machine, assisting someone who was previously homeless get the essentials for a kitchen or helping pupils suffering from hardship through school grants, they do great work to alleviate the effects of poverty.
The more donations they get, the more people they can help, which is why I’m proud NFU Mutual Bearsden has been able to donate through the NFU Mutual Agency Giving Fund.”
Kirsty Simpson, Campaigns & Partnerships Consultant for NFU Mutual in Scotland, said:
“NFU Mutual has been a champion of rural communities the length and breadth of the UK for over 110 years, and the Agency Giving Fund champions local causes that are working day and night to change people’s lives and give hope for a better future. On behalf of Bearsden agency, we’re extremely proud to have nominated Glasgow Care Foundation for this donation and are delighted to be able to support the vital contribution they make to our community.”
100% of money donated to Glasgow Care Foundation goes directly to those experiencing poverty, allowing us to provide vital household good and where there is evidence of food poverty, we provide supermarket vouchers to allow the dignity of choice to those we assist. We help those who have exhausted all other avenues and have nowhere else to turn, so every penny donated to Glasgow Care Foundation is providing key support for those who need it most. We are always keen to welcome new fundraisers and donors, so please get in contact with us if you’d like to help raise funds.
